Welcome to The Clinical Pastoral Education Learning Center. We offer CPE via local and distance learning modalities to clergy and laypersons. Our base of operation is First Congregational Church in Tacoma, Washington – a church whose history dates back to 1874 and whose mission for many years has been to extend religious education beyond its doors into the community (www.TacomaFCC.org). First Congregational Church is currently a member of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches (www.NACCC.org).
In this age of online training and education, we are able to accept applications to our CPE program from persons who live in the Tacoma-Seattle area and far beyond. We have had learners in the Philippines, Africa, Canada, and all over the United States.
The Clinical Pastoral Education Learning Center offers three units of CPE per year to persons who participate online and in person. They are typically 16 weeks long.
The Clinical Pastoral Education Learning Center is based at First Congregational Church, alongside other programs in higher education and ministry outreach that include The Academy of Holistic Theology and Spirituality, and The Spiritual Sanctuary.
The Academy of Holistic Theology and Spirituality was founded in 2015 and received religious exemption by the state of Washington to offer degree programs in religion and theology. The Spiritual Sanctuary was founded in 2013 and it offers a worship and ministry base at First Congregational Church to several local churches from a wide array of denominational backgrounds.
The Clinical Pastoral Education Learning Center is provisionally accredited to offer programs in CPE by the Center for Spiritual Care & Pastoral Formation (CSCPF) which has been in existence since 1995. CSCPF (www.cscpf.org) is “a community which is working every day in the service of Spirit to help, heal and transform individual and global wounds.”
